What is causing the PTFE and PVDF extended delivery

In the last year, the industry has had more allocations than I have seen during my 30 years experience. In the past I have seen sharp price increases, and I have seen several shortages, and delivery delays because of plastic resin allocations coming from plastic resin vendors. This is actually the very first occasion I have seen all these issues at the same time.

Polytetraflouroethylene (TFE) and Kynar - PVDF both are on allocation.

This pair of resins are in short supply. The  PTFE Sheet product PTFE (TFE) and PVDF  manufacturing requires a mineral called Fluorspar that is mined in Mongolia and China. The worldwide demand for this mineral has increased significantly, along with the supply has tightened. PTFE materials have high temperature resistance, excellent chemical resistance and really low co-efficient of friction (slick) and is used in a bunch of applications from non-stick fry pots and pans to ptfe tape for use at home. This mineral is actually a crucial raw materials within the manufacturing of fluoropolymers, fluorolubricants and many refrigerants. This increasing amount of demand combined with shortage of raw materials has caused a dramatic price increase (almost double over the last year), shortages, and we expect these two factors to stay in affect in the near future.
